Referees

SHIFT supports young people and they might be vulnerable. We need to be sure that all the volunteers are going to be trustworthy and reliable. For this reason we ask you to provide two references and to consent to a Criminal Record (police) check. Any information about you will be treated in the strictest confidence.

If you prefer, you can talk to one of the staff members before completing this part of the form. Certain convictions will not prevent you from becoming a volunteer. These can be from a friend, neighbour, colleague or teacher. Only family members cannot be used for referees

Where posts involve direct working with young people the Exemptions Order of the above act allows SHIFT to enquire into the criminal background of applicants. You should list all criminal convictions, including any that may, in other circumstances, be considered ‘spent’.
